Not far from our new home was this little gem and also our first Florida filming opportunity. What a great place to visit and to use as my daily exercise location. With a little over 3 miles of very well maintained hiking trails, large bodies of water, bridges and an observation tower, this was without a doubt a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

The trails were moderate to somewhat heavily populated, however, everyone was very respectful, thus making it feel as if I had space to freely move about without feeling overcrowded.

There are sections of the trail that are canopied by palm and other large shade trees, giving me a nice break from the Florida sun. The trails were comprised of packed shell as well as some pavement and expansive enough to allow plenty of room for hikers and bikers to share.

Walking along the water gave my soul that much needed peaceful vibe that calms and transports me to my innermost serene places. The 8 level observation tower gave a 360 breathtaking panoramic view of the Preserve. Be aware, there are steps to reach the top, but once you are up you won’t regret the climb.

Walking these trails took me to a youthful place and I felt like a pirate. There are so many different terrains to explore from heavily wooded, water, to an arid desert feel. I have always wanted to see an alligator in the wild, and felt sure this would be my chance...did not happen. The water in a few spots looked like the perfect habitat for alligators, snakes and who knows what else. Meghan and I took bets on how much one would have to pay us to swim in that water; Meghan would have swam it for $50, me! there’s not enough money in the world for me to get in that water...however, not far down the trail, was in fact a gentleman chest deep, enjoying an afternoon dip in that murky, brown water - and he was swimming for free! I’m not sure if it was bravery or something else that took him in that water, but better him than me.

Nearing the end of the trail I would lose the canopy of trees and was exposed to the sun. Us, coming from winter in Virginia to second summer in Florida felt the intensity more than the locals, we were dressed appropriately for the probability and did fine, my True Classic Tee kept the moisture wicked away and I was comfortable in spite of the heat.

While we were there the preserve was expanding their trails, and adding more bridges, pavilions, picnicking and kayaking areas. It won’t be finished until well after we leave for Meghan’s next assignment; so maybe we will have to visit again and check it out.

I actually made the Robinson Preserve a Daily place to visit and hike. After dropping Meghan off on her work days, I would go there and drink my coffee while taking in the beauty that surrounded me...what a great way to start the day!

I highly recommend that if you are in or coming near Bradenton FL, the Robinson Preserve is definitely worth your time to visit.

Questions:

Are there alligators in Robinson Preserve?

Yes, Virginia there are! You can expect to find an alligator in just about any body of water in Florida, so always be aware of where you are sticking your toes.

Update:

Direct quote from the Robinson Preserve Website.

“The preserve now consists of 682 acres that is a mix of preserved mangrove, tidal marsh, and former agricultural lands which have undergone an incredible transformation to coastal wetland habitat. This process continues with the "Expansion" which brings to you loads more coastal wetlands and other habitats, a 2.5k rubberized pedestrian-only trail, additional kayak launches and trails, restrooms, picnic areas, and the NEST and Canopy Zone, our brand-new and already iconic educational/event space.
