Welcome!
Hello, my name is Seth and along with my wife Meghan and our two rescue cats Oliver and Kenha...we are Moving!
Let me back up just a little. On October 17, 2020 both Meghan and I gave up our full time careers to follow our dream of travel.
Meghan is an RN and who worked at a large teaching hospital as a Charge Nurse in Virginia. I was a police officer for a local city department.
After much deliberation, we made the decision to go see the world or at least for right now the United States - the world, eventually!
It has always been a childhood dream of Meghan’s to be a travel nurse. The timing was perfect as we were both ready for a change. We each gave our notice at work, then started the process of looking for an agency who would handle all of Meghan’s assignments and act as a liaison between her and the hospitals that she would work for. That agency turned out to be Medical Solutions Travel Nursing. We settled with a recruiter named McKenna and booked her first assignment; in Bradenton, Florida. We found an Airbnb that would accept our two cats in Bradenton; bought a new car that would carry all our belongings, and started the hardest part of this process...packing!
We sold much of our larger furniture and kitchen items, what was left went in to storage, everything else was packed in a u-haul and just like that we moved out of our two bedroom townhome that we had called home for the past two years, said our goodbyes to our families and hit the open road.
I wish I could say it was smooth sailing, but I can’t, we hadn’t made it ten minutes down the road, when the cats freaked out and spilled cat litter and water all over the inside of our new car...we had to stop in the pouring rain, because of course we were traveling at the same time Tropical Storm Zena decided to unleash her fury on the east coast.
We get everything cleaned up, give the cats their prescribed anti-anxiety medication and set the cruise control for our long drive to Kingsland, Georgia. After more hours, rain and traffic than I care to mention, we arrive where we are to spend the night in an Airbnb Tiny Home...
This Tiny House was located in a KOA Campground. First impressions were, “it’s cute” quickly turned in to, tiny house living is not for us. The cats totally freaked out, it wasn’t the cleanest place we have ever stayed (black mold), but it was a place to lay our heads and after a long stressful day of driving, we were thankful to have a bed to crawl in to.
Today is a new day...
We woke somewhat refreshed, ready to load the cats back into the car for this last leg of our trip. We were only a few short miles from the Florida line, and this reality brought a sense of excitement as we knew we were closer to starting this new way of life. For 13 weeks we will call Florida, home.
We arrive at our Airbnb, a first floor condo to be exact, in a building mainly, (strike through mainly) completely comprised of a much, much older generation than Meghan and I. We suddenly are not sure how this will work. But nonetheless, we are here and are unpacking our car, regardless.
It was not until numerous trips with a Winn Dixie shopping cart provided by the building, and many many trips back and forth until the u-haul and car were unpacked and all contents are inside our condo, do we realize that there was a door just a few steps down from our front door that we could have parked and unloaded, without walking having to walk the length of 12 football fields. Oh well, after sitting in a car for two days, it felt good to stretch our legs.
Our condo is a clean, two bedroom, two bath, spacious home, with a screened patio, (that Kenha immediately called dibs on) and a beautiful pool only steps away. We are thinking pretty confidently that we will have the pool to ourselves given the age of our neighbors - not the case at all. Our neighbors not only swam daily, they used the pool as a place to gather and visit with the tenants of our building. We ended up greatly enjoying meeting the people who called this place home. Meghan and I were welcomed and embraced with open arms and sharing the pool turned out to being okay too.
